| Welcome to my Guest Book
From: Bill Burney (burneyblcc@sympatico.ca) April 21 2010 Hello: We came across your web page while researching Robert Edward Burnie, who died in WW1. He was the son of Robert James Burnie and Catherine Ewen. This Robert James Burnie is my great grandfather. Robert Edward was the older brother of William John Burnie who was my grandfather. He married Myrtle Tate and they had 2 children, Douglas Noble Burney (my father) and Doris (Burney) Staples. Douglas Burney, born March 13, 1922 in Kirkfield married Joyce Ethel Simmonds of Portsmouth, England, born April 28, 1923. She was a war bride and moved to Kirkfield in 1946. They had 3 children, Sherrill Doreen (Burney) Ross, born April 24, 1947, William Douglas Burney, born July 26, 1951(me) and Ian Edward Burney, born July 16, 1953. Both Ian and family and Sherrill and family and Joyce still live in Eldon Township near Kirkfield. Douglas died in 1996. I (William) married Lauralee Rattray of Brantford in 1988. We have 2 sons, Caleb James Burney, born March 21, 1990 and Craig Douglas Burney, born June 5, 1992. We reside in Kitchener, Ontario. Please note the change of spelling from Burnie to Burney. My grandfatner, William John Burnie spelled his name Burney all his life (we are told that there was a change from the Roman Catholic Church to the Presbyterian Church by Robert James and Catherine when the children were young. That seemed to trigger a change in the spelling of the name). When William John sent for his birth certificate at age 65, he discovered that he had been registered Burnie. All the subsequent generations have been registered Burney. I am so glad we have found this information and I hope this fills in another branch of the tree. We are still looking into further names and stories. If you would like further information, we would be happy to correspond. They had five children, my mother, Jane Alexandra Burnie, and Ellen Forbes Burnie, James Forbes Burnie, Meg Louise Burnie, and Martha Ann Burnie. I believe we are descendants of your family tree, altough I couldn't find my family among the names on your tree. Can you confirm this for me? Thanks! Sadie Zeld ![]() From: Wally Burnie (19sask20@rogers.com) February 19 2008 Hi Gerry and all Burnies; On Oct.21,2001 I posted a note which has not changed a bit except for the subject data. New address is 19sask20@rogers.com I would appreciate it if you could make the following adjustment or similar, update the same note to present status with the new address. I hope you are still operating the site. Sincerely, Wally Burnie. ![]() From: Gordon Thomas McKeown (buzz56@rogers.com) February 5 2008 Hi Gerry, I happened across your page doing a search for someone and discovered our family connection. So Hi there! hehe. Tom ![]() From: Gerry Burnie (squireb@burniefamily album.net) Home page: http://www.ils.net/~squireb/guest_book.htm February 2 2008 Okay. I discovered that you can't put a link into the body of the message, so to make things easy, I've put the address of the previous guest book messages in the ''Home page'' slot above. Gerry. ![]() From: Gerry Burnie (squireb@burniefamilyalbum.net) February 2 2008 If you have visited the site recently, you will know that the previous guest book crashed; however, thanks to my sister Bev.—who somehow squirreled a copy of it away—you can now view all the previous messages by following this link: www.ils.net/~squireb/guest_book.htm Maybe there is someone among them who might be in your line. Regards to all. Gerry. ![]() From: burnie and burness gipson jr (bgipsonjr@gmail.com) January 20 2008 As you can see my first name is burness but with burnie also used by my Grandmother. Can you give me a idea on the roots of these name as intechangeable? ![]() From: Gerry Burnie (gerry@burniefamilyalbum.net) Home page: http://www.burniefamilyalbum.net January 3 2008 My apologies to all if you were looking for your message on the former guest page. I’m disappointed too, but the vagaries of the computer defeated us both. In other words—the guest book site crashed and took everything with it to an unknown cyber land. However, it’s back up and running, so do sign in again. Some other bits of positive news: I’ve posted new information and image regarding James Burnie to his link on the home page, and my novel Two Irish Lads is in the final stages of being published (possibly in March or April). Happy New Year to you and yours, and peace in our time! Gerry Burnie ![]() |
