I have visited La Bahia many times with my wife and granddaughters on our trips to visit our daughter in Aransas Pass. I love places that have to do with history and this is one great location. I am looking forward to seeing the improvements that have been made. I stopped by on 11 June 2010 but did not have time to make the tour, but for sure the next time we are in the area. I would invite all traveling Hwy 183 to be sure and stop, you will not be disappointed. Have good but safe one on the road.

I RECENTLY VISITED GOLIAD LAST WEEK AND IT WAS SO REFRESHING TO SIT ON THE PORCH AT SOHO AND EAT A WONDERFUL CORN WITH ROSEMARY SOUP AT THE RESTAURANT NEXT DOOR. EVERYONE IS SO HAPPY AND SMILING ALL THE TIME. IT WAS GOING BACK IN TIME AND IT FELT GREAT. I HAD ONLY 1 HOUR TO SPARE AND I DECIDED TO VISIT GOLIAD. IT WAS THE MOST WONDERFUL HOUR I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED WITH MY SIX YEAR OLD GRANDSON. HE LOVED SITTING AT THE BENCH WHERE SHOES ARE POLISHED AT THE SOHO. AND HE LOVED THE PAINTINGS AT THE RESTAURANT. SIMPLY PUT, YOU HAVE A DELIGHTFUL TOWN, THAT I ENVY NOT BEING IN, SAN ANTONIO IS SO BIG AND WE HAVE WONDERFUL HISTORY AT THE ALAMO TOO. KEEP SMILING GOLIAD.

In Answer to Matt who wrote on Febuary 11th
''How terrible that you reenact such a horrific crime. You should be ashamed. This was not a battle. This is not honorable. I would not take my family to see this''

Do not try to shame me for making the public aware of history. This is a dramatic tale that needs to be told, with all its horrific and noble aspects. You and other revisionists should be ashamed of wanting to cover up the truth. You certainly do not have the knowledge to accuse the men and women who recreate this history of being dishonorable. If you wish your family to be ignorant of the past, with all its warts and blemishes, than you certainly have a right to stay at home. I personal do not care if you attend our program.

What happened to Ransome? It was our surprise to find our missing cousin's name on a monument to the dead of Goliad. Ransome O. Graves came from a large family. His father was a brother to my great-grandfather. It was because of his death that two of my family fought at San Jacinto. Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad, Remember Ransome!

This is a great website. Lots of useful informaion.
I haven't been to the presidio since '94 when I took part in the reenactment as on of the defenders.
It's a marvelous place and I hope to be able to return someday.

My ancestor was George A Davis who is listed in Shacklefords company. His brother was Joseph of Yalobusha county, MS. A letter written by Joseph's descendant states that ''George went to TX and died at the Goliad Massacree''. My family visited this site when I was a child, at the time, we had no knowledge of this connection.

Thus outlined
By the undersigned
Put forth in this declaration

A step necessary
''And of right ought to be''
Texas hold the status of a nation

The words didn't hold sway,
Many years ago today
Though still well worthy to remember

Therefore, on this date
I celebrate
Independence Day in December!
