VHS Class of ' 53 Message Board
Our VHS'53 Message Board is an alternative to the En Mass e-mail feature. So, If you have messages for all of us, or a group that is planning an activity, you can send a message here. Remember, what you write will be seen by everyone. There is a one requirement: Enter Your Name. The entry of your email address is optional (but the webmaster reserves the right to delete your message, or any other inappropriate messages). There is another major constraint... you CAN NOT enter `double quote` characters in your message (the single backquote, `, can be used as a substitute). The Message Board holds 50 messages and purges the older ones.

I'm one of the alumna/alumnus of W'53 who has never written and was really starting to feel guilty. Anyhow, I sent my bio and a note to Ron as follows: 'Out of all of the our classmates that you emailed, I do hope some will also send bios and get the ball rolling. It's a great site and I think everyone should have fun putting a bio together. I know I had fun doing it, and am glad you know how to do this. I can type an email, but could never set up a site the way you do. Take care and remember....we aren't getting any younger. From: Ron, Your Webbie July 5 2007 Just had a near-death experience. I have been home since Tuesday ,June 26th. It appears that for some weeks/months before May 17th I had been acquiring another acute case of anemia. I have had bouts with same for 10 yess or more. I must have got some low resistence, and picked up a herpis virus (most everyone has the herpies virus, not the gential form in our system) in my throat. Then it appeas I contracted ''mono'' on thop of that. Anyway hospitalized on Thur May 17th. Family was told I had 24 hours on the 21st as they could not determine what was happening. Aftrer platelles, whole blood and some protien transfusions, I fooled them all and slowing recovered enough to live. Transfer to a rehab/nursing center, and release on June 26th. Home now, Lost 24 lbs and a lot of muscle strength. Under home care for a few weeks. Needed to go to Goodwill to get new clothes as pants with belt just drop to the floor. He was not a 1953 graduate, but did attend Venice in the late 30's. His age is probably 95; I think his wife's name is Barbara. He had a medical practice in Mar Vista and Culver City; was our family physician for years in the 40's and 50's. (He delivered ME in 1935 in a small community hospital in Culver City, which was either right on the MGM lot, or very near. I'm interested in finding him and/or getting info on the hospital, particularly on its precise location in the 30's. I'm not sure whether or not it was connected with medical care of the movie actors under contract to MGM, but it may have been. Does anyone know anything about any of this? OK - big news is that Ted Raab and I had a `pull out all the stops` wedding on June 23, 2006, in Chautauqua New York. If you've never heard of the Chautauqua Institution near Lake Erie, check it out on ciweb.org. It is unique. Our wedding ceremony took place in the huge, old, beautiful Athenaeum Hotel, circa 1880. It has a spectacular view of Lake Chautauqua and it has served summer visitors to the Institution for the past 120 years+. About eighty friends and family gathered there for our wedding and reception, which was catered by our favorite French chef, Jonathan, whose creations from the hors d'ouevres to the traditional puff pastry French wedding cake were pronounced `fabulous`. We had a blast. I had never had a `big` wedding before--and it made me feel nineteen again! As a wedding present, Ted presented me with a white baby grand Yamaha piano. What a dream come true (both him and the piano...). It looks great in our Florida apartment. We travel much of the year, but call Ft Lauderdale `home.` (at least in the winter). For the past six years, we've been going to France every Spring, taking our barge, L'Heritage, through the French canals. But this past Spring we sold our share in her, so will now be branching out to other Spring travel destinations...We spend each summer in Chautauqua, it is such a fantastic place. I just replied to Sue, Marsha Sokol's daughter, re my friendship with Marsha when we both worked in the Venice Admin office. I remember her very fondly, and it's nice to know of Sue's existence. I miss CA and am working up to a trip to the west coast next year. Hope there will be some kind of mini-reunion in Apr or May. Our Christmas tree is trimed, our New Jersey and North Carolina families will be here for this Christmas weekend. Our other son's family will make a visit in Febuary. At that time, she was still depressed over having to leave NY!!!
