There is one verifiable scene shot in Denver, CO. When Mr. Schmidt makes a right turn from Colfax Avenue, Emerson Elementary School is visable for a few seconds, as is the Ogden Theater on the left just prior to that shot. I attended Emerson for 2 years, grades 5 and 6, and recognized it immediately. When my wife and I watched it, I grabbed her and started yelling that there was my old school. Luckily we were at home watching the DVD and so no patrons were disturbed by my behavior. All in all great movie, made more poignant by the fact that a few years later my wife passed away due to flesh eating bacteria.

It seems that I read/heard an interview with Alexander Payne that the ''Holdrege'' location was filmed in Omaha, but I never got an exact address. Thanks!

I cought a glimps of this movie late at night. Never saw it at the movies. But each time I caught it on TV
it was never in the begining. Finally I bought the video and viewed it. I thought it was a great movie and very poignant.
Another great movie by one of the "masters" of the craft.

I was lucky to run across this site and it is very interesting.Nebraska is a beautiful state, the people are the best in the land and I don't just flippantly say that;I've been around dlot from Arizona on east and nothing can touch it.If you drive across I-80 and think you've seen it,you lose.I'm temperarilly stuck in indiana(the armpit of the nation in alot of ways) but am working my way back to the true "goodlife". I supplied the major automobiles for Sean Penn's Indian Runner in 91' and would do it again almost for the experience. The Nebraska Dept.of Tourism sends me several books and brochures every spring and i pass out to people going west and you cannot believe the feedback. The real fear that I have is that too many people will discover it(not in my lifetime)and bring their bad habits with them.I'm originally from York and invite everyone to hang your hat there as you go thru on I-80.Enjoy the best of real America.

Dwaine - can you get the exact address of the Council Bluffs location? I'd like to check it out. It seems that I read/heard an interview with Alexander Payne that the "Holdrege" location was filmed in Omaha, but I never got an exact address. Thanks!

Derek - somewhere I read that the phonebooth scene was filmed near Grand Island. I'm in Grand Island frequently and I've yet to spot the exact location.

The Holdrege, Nebraska scenes look like Council Bluffs, IA to me. Definitely the Tires Plus is in Council Bluffs because I recognized the businesses out the windows.

During one scene, Jack was standing in a phonebooth in a small Nebraska town. The location looked a lot like Fairmont, NE. Can anyone confirm this??
Thanks.

I'm a Nebraskan living in Connecticut and was thrilled to see all the Nebraska locations in the movie.
The film itself was great too!
Nebraska is a beautiful state and we get to see it in this movie!
I run a web site called MissingNebraska.com and a number of our former Nebraskan visitors also enjoyed the film very much!
Good Luck Jack and Kathy at the Oscars!

My husband and I were extras in About Schmidt. They filmed at our church. Jack Nicholson was a total gentleman and was really nice to us.
